4-Acetyl-1H-pyrrole-2-carboxylic acid (4A2PCA) is an aminoalkyl compound that acts as a cytostatic agent. It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of cells in culture by binding to DNA chains and inhibiting the synthesis of RNA, which is essential for protein synthesis. 4A2PCA has also been shown to be cytostatic in vivo, although its mechanism of action is not yet fully understood. 4A2PCA binds to nuclei and inhibits DNA synthesis, leading to cell death.
