2-Amino-3-cyano-4-chloro-5-formylthiophene is a synthetic monomethine dye that can be used in the production of polyester. The compound can be prepared by reacting 2,4,5-trichlorobenzothiazole with methyl aminomalonate and sodium cyanide, followed by purification by recrystallization from acetic acid. The ligand has been found to show efficient binding to an imine and its tautomeric form. It also has a red shift due to the bathochromic effect. The compound exhibits acidic properties as well as chloride and sulfide substituents. These substituents are responsible for the protonation of the molecule at various positions on the molecule, which affects its tautomeric form.
