4-Acetamido-5-chloro-2-methoxybenzoic acid is a chemical compound that is used as a pharmaceutical agent. It is an amide of the neurotransmitter serotonin and an agonist of the 5HT4 receptor. It is also a methylating agent, which may contribute to its ability to regulate chloride channels in muscle cells and brain neurons. 4-Acetamido-5-chloro-2-methoxybenzoic acid has been shown to be safe for use in children and infants, and has been approved by the FDA for use in pediatrics. The drug can be administered orally, intravenously, or intramuscularly. 4-Acetamido-5-chloro-2-methoxybenzoic acid is metabolized into bromoethylamine and carbon tetrachloride through oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes.
