3-Amino-4-cyano-1-phenyl-1H-pyrrole-2-carboxylic acidethylester is a catalytic, carbodiimide that has been used to synthesize amines, phenols and other organic compounds. It has been used in the synthesis of hexachloroethane and other chlorinated hydrocarbons. 3-Amino-4-cyano-1-phenyl-1H-pyrrole-2--carboxylic acid ethylester is also efficient for the synthesis of phenols from alcohols and alkoxides. This compound can be synthesized by reacting triethylamine with an alkoxide in the presence of potassium carbonate.
