1-Amino-5-hexene is an optically active, acidic amine that can be produced from the dehydration of hexanethiol. It is a chiral compound and can be obtained in racemic form by using a catalyst such as piperidine. 1-Amino-5-hexene is used to produce 6-amino-1-hexanol, which can be used as an intermediate for the production of tetrahydropyran. The formation rate of 1-aminono 5 hexene depends on the reaction temperature and alcohols. The yield increases with increasing reaction temperature and decreasing alcohol concentration.
