3-Amino-2,5-dichlorobenzoic acid, methyl ester is a synthetic herbicide that inhibits the growth of plants by inhibiting the synthesis of fatty acids. It can be used for agricultural purposes and as a pesticide. 3-Amino-2,5-dichlorobenzoic acid, methyl ester has been shown to inhibit the enzyme fatty acid synthase (FAS) in vitro and in vivo. This inhibition leads to a decrease in the amount of fatty acids produced by the plant and eventually death. The compound also inhibits other enzymes such as acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase (ACCase) and ATP citrate lyase (ATPCL), which are involved in lipid biosynthesis.
