3-Acetoxy-2-methylbenzoyl chloride is an organic compound that can be used as a raw material for the preparation of many other organic compounds. 3-Acetoxy-2-methylbenzoyl chloride is an inorganic acid and a metal salt. It reacts with alkalis to form metal acetates, or with thionyl chloride to form chlorides. In addition, it can hydrolyze aliphatic hydrocarbons to produce aliphatic chlorides. 3-Acetoxy-2-methylbenzoyl chloride is soluble in dimethylformamide but insoluble in water. It has been used as a chlorinating agent for the production of hydrocarbon solvents and has been shown to have high yield.
