- 1-(7-Ethyl-2-benzofuranyl)ethanone7-Ethyl-2-benzofuranyl methyl ketone
2-Acetyl-7-ethylbenzofuran is an epoxide that can be obtained by transfer hydrogenation of acetylacetone. This compound has been used in chemical syntheses to produce alcohols, including the synthesis of chiral alcohols by means of asymmetric synthesis. 2-Acetyl-7-ethylbenzofuran is also used as a chiral auxiliary for the stereoselective synthesis of stereoisomers. The enzyme lipase mediates this reaction and transfers the epoxide to an alcohol. In addition, 2-Acetyl-7-ethylbenzofuran can be used as a substrate for lipases, which reduces the molecule to its reduction products, an alcohol and an enol.
