Alatrofloxacin mesylate is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to the group of fluoroquinolones. It inhibits prostaglandin synthesis by blocking the activity of bacterial enzymes, such as cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase. Alatrofloxacin mesylate is used for the treatment of infectious diseases and autoimmune diseases. This drug has been shown to have a higher therapeutic index than other quinolones in vivo models, rotarod tests, enzyme activities, and toxicity studies. Alatrofloxacin mesylate also has better pharmacokinetic properties than other fluoroquinolones, which may be due to its high solubility in aqueous solutions.
