Descrição:5alfa-Androstan-3beta-ol is a synthetic steroid that binds to the androgen receptor and has been shown to inhibit hepatic steatosis in mice. It also has been shown to have activity against bacterial strains, such as Salmonella typhimurium, by inhibiting fatty acid synthesis. 5alfa-Androstan-3beta-ol is activated by the liver and then metabolized through detoxification enzymes that are expressed at high levels in the liver, such as CYP2C11 and CYP2E1. This drug can be used for treating infectious diseases because it does not activate these enzymes. 5alfa-Androstan-3beta-ol can also be used for studying the role of receptors in cell proliferation, tissue culture, and oncogenesis.
