2-Amino-6-phenylpyridine is a cytostatic agent that inhibits the formation of free radicals and reactive oxygen species. It has been shown to be effective in treating inflammatory bowel disease and Alzheimer's Disease. 2-Amino-6-phenylpyridine reacts with nucleophilic sites on proteins, such as cysteine residues, to form reaction products that inhibit inflammation. This drug also binds to carbon-carbon bonds in DNA and RNA during replication, leading to inhibition of protein synthesis or cell division. 2-Amino-6-phenylpyridine is an organometallic compound that can be synthesized by techniques such as amidation or substitution reactions.
