Ascorbic acid dipalmitate is a biocompatible polymer that has been shown to be an effective agent for the treatment of staphylococcal infections. It is used in the form of crystalline cellulose and isopropyl palmitate, which are both lipophilic and thus able to cross the cell membrane. Ascorbic acid dipalmitate has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth by binding with fatty acids from exudates on the surface of bacteria, preventing them from interacting with enzymes that are required for metabolism. The molecular docking analysis of this product shows that it binds to the magnesium salt in a way that prevents its interaction with enzymes, inhibiting bacterial growth.
