It is a nucleophilic molecule that reacts with amines, thiols, and sulfides to form allyl methyl sulfone. Allyl methyl sulfide also has immunomodulatory effects, which are observed in animal studies. Allyl methyl sulphide has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by attacking the sulfur atom in their DNA and fatty acids by inhibiting enzymes involved in their metabolism. This results in a decrease of phospholipids, causing cell death and reduced inflammation.
