It is made by reacting carbon disulphide with diazotisation, followed by filtration and extraction with cellulose triacetate. The product is then dissolved in dimethoxyethane to produce a red solution. This solution undergoes nitration using concentrated nitric acid to yield a yellow precipitate, which is then distilled off under reduced pressure to yield the desired product. 4-Amino-3-trifluoromethylbenzonitrile can be used in organic solvents such as sulphone or polyesters.
