2-Amino-5-nitrobenzonitrile is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of p2 compounds. It has been shown to be genotoxic, inducing DNA strand breaks and mutations in mammalian cells. 2-Amino-5-nitrobenzonitrile reacts with diazonium salts to form nitrosamines, which are known carcinogens. It also induces epidermal growth by binding to epidermal growth factor receptors on the cell surface and activating the receptor's tyrosine kinase activity. This process is mediated by a low energy (12 kcal/mol) reaction mechanism involving ammonolysis.
