N-Acetyl-DL-glutamic acid is a form of glutamic acid that is synthesized in the body. It is also found in food sources such as wheat, soybeans, and corn. N-Acetyl-DL-glutamic acid has been used to diagnose genetic diseases that affect the metabolism of amino acids, such as deficiency of glutamate. It has been shown to be an essential component for energy metabolism and helps with the regulation of blood sugar levels. N-Acetyl-DL-glutamic acid is a precursor for synthesis of arginine, which plays a role in biochemical reactions and participates in the immune response. The synthesis of N-Acetyl-DL-glutamic acid occurs through two different pathways: 1) conversion of glutamate by glutamine synthetase or 2) conversion of L -arginine by argininosuccinate synthetase.
