N-Acetyl-L-alpha-glutamyl-L-alpha-glutamyl-L-methionyl-L-glutaminyl-L-arginyl-L-argininamide (NAAG) is a neuropeptide that has been shown to have cytotoxic properties. It is also a potent inhibitor of the receptor activity of acetylcholine, which is involved in the regulation of smooth muscle contractions. NAAG inhibits the synthesis and release of proinflammatory cytokines, leading to antiinflammatory effects. NAAG has been shown to be effective in vitro against skin cells, cell factor and titration calorimetry methods for measuring protein binding. Studies on mice show that NAAG inhibits skin aging caused by UV irradiation.
