(S)-(+)-1-Amino-2-propanol is a chiral organic compound that is a metabolite of the amino acid lysine. It is produced by the action of dehydrogenase on lysine and can be used as a substrate for the synthesis of corrinoids, which are important in photosynthesis. (S)-(+)-1-Amino-2-propanol is an acidic substance that binds to a number of different enzymes and proteins. Its homologues include 1,4-butanediol, 1,5-pentanediol, and 2-methylpentanediol.
