Acetaldoxime is an oxime that is used as a reagent in the synthesis of acetaldehyde. It has been shown to inhibit cyclase activity, which may be due to its ability to form stable complexes with monoamine neurotransmitters. Acetaldoxime has also been used in the study of plant physiology and for toxicity studies. The reaction mechanism of acetaldoxime involves attack by the hydroxyl group on the carbonyl carbon atom, followed by elimination of water and formation of a stabilized complex with the amino group.
