Ammonium fluoride is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water. It can be used to remove ammonium ions from wastewater by reacting with the ammonium ions to form ammonium fluoride. Ammonium fluoride also reacts with sodium salts, such as sodium carbonate and sodium hydroxide, and zirconium oxide to form ammonium zirconate. This reaction has been shown to be thermally stable up to 400°C. Ammonium fluoride has a high chemical stability and does not react with glycol ethers or organic acids. The optimum concentration for this compound is 10-100 ppm, although it can be used at concentrations as low as 1 ppm when mixed with other chemicals.
