L-Aspartic acid alpha-methyl ester is a synthetic amino acid that is used in organic synthesis. It is a chiral compound that has a D configuration at the alpha carbon and an L configuration at the beta carbon. This compound can be prepared by reacting methylamine with potassium tert-butoxide in the presence of an immobilized catalyst. L-Aspartic acid alpha-methyl ester is used to produce peptidomimetics, which are compounds with similar properties to natural amino acids. It can also be used as an acylase inhibitor.
