2-Abz-Gly-OH·HCl is a bioactive compound that belongs to the group of macroalgal polymers. It has been shown to inhibit proteolytic activity and tyrosinase activity in vitro. The inhibition of tyrosinase may be due to its ability to form complexes with this enzyme and thereby reduce its catalytic efficiency. 2-Abz-Gly-OH·HCl has also been shown to have hypotensive properties in rats, as well as inhibitory activities against enzymes such as chymotrypsin, trypsin, and elastase. This compound also inhibits blood platelet aggregation and is used in the treatment of thrombosis.
