2-(2-Aminoethyl)phenylamine (2-PEPA) is a monoamine that has been shown to have nootropic effects. It has been shown to inhibit both monoamine oxidase type A and B, leading to the increase of catecholamines in the body. 2-PEPA has been used in clinical trials as an inhibitor treatment for patients with hypertension. This drug also has a strong dilation effect on the veins, which may be due to its ability to inhibit adrenergic activity. 2-PEPA is not toxic as it does not bind to proteins or DNA, and can easily be eliminated from the body through urine or faeces.
