1-Acetyl-6-aminoindoline is a disulfide with two pyrrole rings. It is synthesized by the reaction of acetaldehyde and 2,2'-azobis(isobutyronitrile) in the presence of carbon disulfide as a dehydrating agent. The molecule has been prepared in high yields by a cyclization procedure that is regioselective for the 1-acetyl group, which is more reactive than the 6-amino group. The synthesis can be optimized to produce a mixture containing four diastereomers in an approximate ratio of 1:1:4:4.
