3-Aminocyclopentanecarboxylic acid is an amino acid derivative that has been synthesized for the first time in 1955. It has a chiral center and two asymmetric carbon atoms, which means that it can exist in four different stereoisomers. 3-Aminocyclopentanecarboxylic acid is a neurotransmitter that has been found to have kinetic effects on human beings. This amino acid derivative also exists as a racemic mixture of its two stereoisomers, D-3-aminocyclopentanecarboxylic acid and L-3-aminocyclopentanecarboxylic acid. The most common use of this compound is in the synthesis of amidinomycin, which is used to treat tuberculosis.
