- 2-Chloro-5-Iodopyridin-4-Amine
- 4-Pyridinamine, 2-chloro-5-iodo-
4-Amino-2-chloro-5-iodopyridine is a transport agent that is used to dilute other drugs in order to increase their concentration. It has been shown to inhibit glutamate uptake and release in rat brain synaptosomes. This compound also inhibits the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and has been shown to have antimycobacterial activity against Mycobacterium avium complex. 4-Amino-2-chloro-5-iodopyridine has a racemic structure, and its antibacterial activity has been shown to be due to the action of the levorotatory form. 4-Amino-2-chloro-5-iodopyridine inhibits bacterial growth by binding preferentially to amino groups on proteins and amines on nucleic acids, which leads to inhibition of protein synthesis and DNA replication.
