(3R)-(+)-3-Acetamidopyrrolidine is a potent and selective inhibitor of the enzyme DNA gyrase. It binds to the ATP-binding site of the enzyme, thereby inhibiting its enzymatic activity. (3R)-(+)-3-Acetamidopyrrolidine has been shown to be effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This drug is also active against some fungi, such as Candida albicans. The mechanism of action of 3-acetamidopyrrolidine is not well understood, but it may inhibit topoisomerases or alter the topology of DNA without inhibiting DNA replication.
