(S)-2-(Aminomethyl)pyrrolidine is a bifunctional organometallic molecule that is used as an inhibitor of the enzyme DPP-4. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of DPP-4 in a stereoselective manner and was found to be effective for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. The (S)-2-(aminomethyl)pyrrolidine molecule binds to the active site of DPP-4, which leads to the inhibition of its enzymatic activity. This interaction inhibits the production of proinsulin, preventing it from being converted into insulin. This drug also has anti-inflammatory properties and may be useful in treating inflammatory bowel disease.
