4-Aminonicotinic acid methyl ester is an analog of the natural product anthranilic acid. It has been studied for its anticancer activity and ability to inhibit pyridinium cross-links in DNA. 4-Aminonicotinic acid methyl ester is a prodrug that is converted to 4-aminonicotinamide, which inhibits cell growth and induces apoptosis by binding to nuclei and inhibiting DNA replication. This compound also has the ability to inhibit chloride ion channels, leading to decreased cellular proliferation.
