Retigabine is a carbamate that binds to the benzodiazepine binding site of the gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor. It has been shown to have analgesic properties in animal studies, and has also been investigated as a potential treatment for epilepsy. Retigabine may be used in combination with other drugs, such as flumazenil, which can reverse its effects. The structural analog of retigabine is flumazenil, a drug that can reverse the effects of benzodiazepines such as diazepam and midazolam.
