Alnustone is a hexane extract that can inhibit the growth of microorganisms. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and may be effective against cancer cells. Alnustone is extracted from a plant called "Alstonia scholaris" and has been shown to have inhibitory effects against infectious diseases, such as malaria, tuberculosis, and bacterial infections. This compound also inhibits the polymerase chain reaction. Alnustone blocks the activity of p-hydroxybenzoic acid (PHBA) in bacteria and protocatechuic acid (PCA) in plants. PHBA is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of phenylalanine to tyrosine, which is essential for protein synthesis. Protocatechuic acid is a metabolite that plays a role in plant defense mechanisms and is necessary for the production of lignin, which gives plants rigidity and strength.
