4-(2-Amino-1-hydroxyethyl)-5-fluoro-1,2-benzenediol is a compound that binds to the 2-adrenergic receptor and has been shown to have biological properties. It is a member of the class of compounds known as agonists. The asymmetric synthesis of 4-(2-Amino-1-hydroxyethyl)-5-fluoro-1,2-benzenediol has been achieved by an enantioselective transformation of the corresponding ketone. This compound also modulates the activity of 5HT2 receptors and inhibits cholinergic transmission in rat striatal tissue. 4-(2-Amino-1-hydroxyethyl)-5-fluoro-1,2--benzenediol can be used as an antihistamine for treating allergies and as a decongestant for treating colds and asthma.
