3-Phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole is a cyclic compound that belongs to the group of c1-c4 cyclic compounds. It is an inhibitor of protein-coupled receptors, which are involved in the inflammatory response. 3-Phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole has been found to have therapeutic effects in some chronic inflammatory diseases and has been shown to inhibit the production of prostaglandins in animals. 3-Phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole binds to the receptor for thromboxane A2 (TXA2) and inhibits the enzyme 5-lipoxygenase (5LOX), which converts arachidonic acid into leukotrienes. This inhibition leads to decreased inflammation.
