N-Isopropylbenzenesulfonamide is a sulphonamide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth by blocking the synthesis of folic acid. It is used in the treatment of infections caused by bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. N-isopropylbenzenesulfonamide has been shown to be efficient against gram-negative bacteria, but not against gram-positive bacteria. This drug can be delivered in micelles or encapsulated with polyvinylpyrrolidone. N-isopropylbenzenesulfonamide is also used for the preparation of conjugates for targeted delivery to erythrocytes infected with Plasmodium falciparum malaria parasites, which are an important cause of death in children in sub-Saharan Africa.
