4,5-Diphenyl-1,2,3-thiadiazole is a heterocyclic compound that has been shown to have antioxidant properties. It is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of organometallic compounds and in the production of aluminum oxide. The oxidation products of 4,5-diphenyl-1,2,3-thiadiazole have been studied by ultrafast spectroscopy. This technique showed that 4,5-diphenyl-1,2,3-thiadiazole reacts with chloride ions to produce the radical cation 1-(4'-chlorophenyl)-4,5-diphenyloxazolium ion. This radical cation can react with oxygen to form the peroxy radical (RO) and then reacts with hydrogen peroxide to form a hydroperoxide (ROOH).
