3-Ethylcarbazole is a polymer film that has been used as an electrical insulator and dielectric in the manufacture of capacitors. It is synthesized by electrochemical polymerization of vinyl ether and phenyl groups, which are chemically bonded through a carbazole ring. 3-Ethylcarbazole can be used as a mathematical model to predict the rate of reaction for liquid phase polymerization processes, as well as process optimization. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of cancer and analytical methods have been developed to measure its fluorescence properties.
