Ethyl 4-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-6-methyl-2-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidine-5-carboxylate (EMPC) is a hydrogen bond donor that has been shown to stabilize proteins. EMPC has shown to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells by stabilizing proteins and inhibiting protein synthesis. EMPC binds to the ribosome and blocks translation initiation. It also inhibits transcription by binding to DNA and prevents the formation of mRNA from DNA. The inhibition of protein synthesis leads to cell death.
