It has been shown to have neuroprotective properties in vitro and in vivo, and its mechanism may be related to its inhibition of apoptotic cell death. Fmoc-γ-Abu-OH also has pharmacokinetic properties, which are dependent on the route of administration. This compound is absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract and distributed throughout the body with a half-life of approximately 12 hours. Fmoc-γ-Abu-OH binds to β-catenin and inhibits its degradation by proteasomes, thereby increasing its levels in cells.
