4-Bromophenyl hydrazine is a synthetic compound with a molecular weight of 174.26 g/mol that is used in the synthesis of other chemicals. It is an acidic, white solid that dissolves in water and alcohols but not in ether. 4-Bromophenyl hydrazine can be synthesized by reacting phenol with hydrogen bromide and ammonia. The chloride ion is an integral part of the molecule, which facilitates its ability to form weak bonds with oxygen molecules. The hydroxyl group at the end of the molecule gives it optical properties that can be manipulated by changing pH levels.
