Burgess reagent is a dehydrating agent that converts amides to amines. It is used in the synthesis of epoxides and in reactions involving phosphorus pentoxide. It also reacts with hydroxyl groups and sulfoxides, leading to the production of phosphites, sulfones, and sulfites. Burgess reagent is used to synthesize adrenergic receptor antagonists for use in the treatment of hyperproliferative diseases.
