This compound reacts with the isothiouronium salt in an intramolecular hydrogen transfer reaction that leads to the formation of benzyl sulfide, which then undergoes a trifluoroacetic acid-catalyzed reaction to form benzyl disulfide. The resulting benzyl disulfide molecule can be detected using UV/VIS spectroscopy or by using a fluorescence probe.
