4-Bromo-1-chloro-2-fluorobenzene is a monomer that can be used to synthesize polymers. The quantum efficiency of the fluorescence of 4-bromo-1,4-difluoro-2-(trimethylsilyl)benzene (DFSB) was investigated. The maximum quantum efficiency was found at excitation wavelength of 350 nm and emission wavelength of 450 nm. The fluorescence can be boosted by adding Grignard reagent to the reaction mixture and heating it to reflux temperature. This process reduces the molecular weight of the product, which can lead to more efficient polymerization due to increased reactivity.
