3-bromo-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzonitrile is a colorless liquid that has been used as a solvent and an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. It is also used to prepare optical sensors for detecting hydrogen peroxide and oxygen, which can be applied in many fields, such as environmental monitoring. 3-bromo-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzonitrile is also able to remove halogens from organic compounds through debromination and dehalogenation reactions. The removal of bromide ions from water can be achieved by electrolysis with 3-bromo-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzonitrile.
The reaction between the compound and acid produces acidic potentials, which may be measured by various types of sensors.
