It is used to induce apoptosis in hl-60 cells, which are human promyelocytic leukemia cells. The apoptotic process induced by 2-(Benzyloxy)-5-chlorobenzaldehyde is characterized by the fragmentation of mitochondrial DNA and proteins, as well as changes in mitochondrial membrane potential. The induction of apoptosis by 2-(Benzyloxy)-5-chlorobenzaldehyde may be due to its ability to inhibit mitochondrial cycle and cause mitochondrial membrane permeabilization.
