2,2-Bis(hydroxymethyl)butyric acid is a chemical compound that can be synthesized by reacting 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol with phosgene. It has been shown to have high resistance to water vapor and is an experimental solubility data for the analysis of polyurethane. This compound also has a model system for the study of cancer in mice. 2,2-Bis(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol reacts with diisocyanates to form a reaction solution and monosodium salt. The methyl ethyl structural analysis of this compound was found to be C4H11NO3•CH3OCOCH2COOC4H11NO3.
