Tert-Butyl 4-(aminomethyl)piperidine-1-carboxylate is a selective 5-HT4 receptor agonist that has been shown to have neuroprotective effects in vitro. Tert-Butyl 4-(aminomethyl)piperidine-1-carboxylate has been shown to inhibit the release of acetylcholine in the hippocampus and cortex, which may be due to its ability to block the binding of acetylcholine to nicotinic receptors. This drug also has affinity values for the 5-ht4 receptor and has been shown to protect against neuronal cell death induced by glutamate. Tert-Butyl 4-(aminomethyl)piperidine-1-carboxylate is currently undergoing clinical trials for cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and other conditions.
