1-Benzothiophene-3-carbonyl chloride is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have antiproliferative effects on cancer cells. It has been used in the synthesis of nicotine, cyclopentane carboxylic acid, and various other organic compounds. This chemical has inhibitory effects on histamine release from mast cells and also inhibits the synthesis of DNA in cancer cells. 1-Benzothiophene-3-carbonyl chloride does not appear to be toxic to fibroblast cells at low concentrations ( 100 µM) and may have therapeutic potential for the treatment of cancer.
