6-Bromo-3-chloro-1-benzothiophene-2-carbonyl chloride is a synthetic dyestuff that can be used in the production of textile fibers, dyestuffs, and paints. It is soluble in water and fats, but insoluble in hydrocarbons. The compound is synthesized by reacting 6-bromo-3-chlorobenzothiophene with an acid chloride followed by heating to produce a red dye. This dye has been shown to be resistant to light and heat and has low toxicity.
