2-Butoxybenzoic acid is a reactive, thermally stable and easily purified compound that has been used in the synthesis of amines, heterocycles and other organic compounds. 2-Butoxybenzoic acid has been used as an analytical reagent for the determination of fatty acids in fats, oils and waxes. It reacts with amines to form a nitroso derivative. The film substrate is activated by treatment with an acid or base to form an ester or amide bond respectively. 2-Butoxybenzoic acid has also been used as a reagent for the determination of hydroxyl groups, where it reacts with nitrous acid to form a hydroxylamine derivative.
