It has been shown to inhibit the replication of various regulatory proteins, including the replicons of human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 and Epstein Barr virus. This activity is also seen in cells from patients with Alzheimer's disease. The IC50 for 2-bromo-1-cyclopropylethanone is 0.01 μM, which makes it among the most potent antiproliferative agents available. 2-Bromo-1-cyclopropylethanone inhibits the enzyme ns3 protease, which is involved in regulating tumor cell proliferation and metastasis.
